September 1918

"I won't sign that! Do whatever you want, but I would not be a party to signing my son's death warrant!"
Walter turned to look at his mom pleadingly, she occupied herself with setting the table for dinner. Walter could not understand why his dad was being unreasonable.
He was after all only enlisting for the Red Cross Ambulance Corps and not even the army!

Russell's mom was the cause of all these. They had already packed their bags and wanted to leave at night, but Russell's mom had seen the bags and reported him to his parents. Now he needed their signature on the enlisting documents.

"Look around the house Elias", his mother finally spoke, "my other sons left without warning, right in the middle of the night!"
"I think signing those forms would not be a bad idea", she continued "at least, we would know his whereabouts".
Walter's dad dropped the spoon, stood up from the dining table and stormed out without another word.

"Do not worry, I will sign them" Walter's mother said placing a hand on his shoulder.
He rushed inside immediately and got the form.
His mom signed them, deliberating ignoring the alteration of Walter's birth year that he had changed from 1901 to 1900.

"Make sure you come back to me son" she said handing the forms back to him.
Walter nodded with glee and rushed off to Russell's house to tell him the good news.

Two weeks later, Walter was assigned to a training facility on the South side of Chicago. At that time, the Great Influenza had started and he had to work with some influenza patients.
It wasn't long before he also came down with the flu. His first course of action was to return home to his mom where she nursed him back to health.

Ten years down the lane, Walter Disney and Ub Iwerks created Mickey Mouse which was an instant hit. The Walt Disney movies, the Disney theme parks around the world are some of his numerous wonderful achievements so far.

How this story relates to me...

Reading about this makes me remember those times when my dad was being a bit unreasonable and mom was always there to help out... Love you mom 😍😍

What a very cool story, I did not see that coming who you were talking about, and I usually catch these things fairly quickly. A LOT of influential people in the coming fifty years fought in this war Ernest Hemingway, Eisenhower, Patton, Montgomery, Hitler (the s.o.b.), professional athletes, actors, heck pretty much everybody who could joined in the international slaughter, sadly. Well done UPVOTE. I wrote the one in the contest about the nurse's report I would be curious on your thoughts on it. Again, great story @fejiro!

Oh... Off to check it out. Thanks for stopping by
