Destinations to Explore in a Week

Day 1: Baghdad

Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq, is an excellent place to start your adventure. Despite not being the most dazzling metropolis when you first see it, there are many exciting and enjoyable things to do.
Take a cab to the Mustanasiryah Madrasa after breakfast to visit the oldest Islamic university in the world, which dates back to the 13th century.
After your visit to Mustanasiryah is done, make your way to Safafeer Copper Market, which is close by, to peruse the merchandise available for purchase.

Day 2: Samarra and Baghdad

On your second day in Iraq, get an early start and go to the Martyr's Monument, also called the Al Shaheed Monument. If you've done any research on visiting Baghdad, you've probably seen pictures of the Al Shaheed Monument—known to many travelers as the "famous giant blue eggs."
However, the monument is more than simply a few exquisite structures—it is a whole memorial dedicated to honoring the Iraqis who perished in the protracted Iran-Iraq War.

Day 3: Babylon and Karbala

On the third day of your plan for Iraq, get an even earlier start as you head south to see the sites of Babylon, Saddam's Palace in Al Hillah, and the well-known shrines in Karbala.
Depending on traffic, it will take you between 90 and 2 hours to reach Al Hillah after leaving Baghdad. From there, you may take a cab to the well-known Ishtar Gate, which serves as the entrance to the ancient city of Babylon.

Day 4: Najaf and Kufa

Because Ali, the cousin and brother-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, is buried at Najaf, it is also a significant holy city for Shia. As a result, Najaf is a significant pilgrimage place, just like Karbala.
The Imam Ali Shrine is undoubtedly the greatest attraction in Najaf. The shrine has a mosque that is entirely covered in gold, and it also has the tombs of numerous other significant prophets.

Day 5: Ur and Nasiriya

Similar to Samarra, traveling to Nasiriyah might be difficult, but for different reasons. The high-security al Hoot Prison, which is situated outside of Nasiriyah on the route to the Ziggurat of Ur, is home to several suspected members of ISIS and al Qaeda, which is why security surrounding the city is relatively strong.
While Nasiriyah itself doesn't offer much to see, it's a fantastic place to start explorations of the Mesopotamian Marshes.

Day 6: Mesopotamia Marshes

In the Mesopotamian Marshes, riding a mashuf (ancient canoe-like boat) is a fantastic experience for traveling to southern Iraq. The region is not only breathtakingly gorgeous but is also the home of the intriguing Ma'dan (Marsh Arabs) culture.

Day 7: Basra

Last but not least, the southern metropolis of Basra is included in this tour of Iraq. Take a boat trip on the Shatt al Arab in the morning to view some of the city's most notable sights from the water.
After the quick river tour, ride a Careem to Shanasheel, Basra's Old City, to explore the streets and canals while taking in the classic homes and architecture. After years of disuse, portions of the Old City are presently being restored.
