Little Leprechaun Lament
I know we had plans for this evening but the weirdest thing happened to me today and I won't be able to to make it. I woke up this morning to what I thought was going to be a normal day. I took a shower, got dressed, had breakfast and even remembered to be an adult and brush my teeth. I left this morning in a hurry late for work but as I was walking out to my car I stepped on a crack in the sidewalk. I had always been told as a child not to step on any cracks so as to not risk breaking my mothers back but never understood how it worked. I figured it best to never test it, breaking my mother's back wasn't something I was willing to risk. I was really worried. I’ve always been careful, but today I got careless and tested fate. I'd hoped it was only one of those stupid superstitious things so I got in my car and drove to work. About 15 minutes into my drive my phone rang, it was a leprechaun. At least I assume he was since he was speaking in a kind of higher pitched voice and he was threatening something about gold. He said he had been notified that I had stepped on a crack, because of this I had been activated as someone who would help him move his pot of gold since he was too small to lift it himself. It's apparently how they keep their gold hidden, so nobody steals it, they keep moving it. Since they can't move it themselves, they conscript people to do it for them by threatening to break their mother's back. So now I am on my way to meet up with him at the secret location, because I am magically obligated to do it or risk the consequences. I am terribly sorry I won't be able to make it, I really wanted to see you. i guess it just goes to show that perhaps some superstitions are founded in a bit of truth.
