It is normal and healthy to have pressure during exams, it keeps you active and efficient. Although, if it reaches  to the point where panic starts then it could be disastrous for your paper/exam.

I used to follow a few steps during the papers/exams, which were helpful in keeping me focused in solving the paper rather than being panicked.

Spend first 15 to 20 minutes deciding:

  1. What questions you can answer the best. ... circle them out
  2. Now numbered them as per your confusion level about those questions. The more you're confident in easily writing the answer of a question, the top the rank of that question is.
  3. Now decide how much time you need to solve a question, write that time against that question.
  4. Sum up the time, if it is more than the total allowed time then adjust the time for each question to total allowed time minus 10 minutes.
  5. Try to follow the targeted/allocated time.
  6. The spare 10 minutes are for the mistake corrections.

These 20 minutes won't be proved a waste of time. It is difficult to get used to these steps so practice it with sample exam papers before actual exams.

These were the steps I used to follow during detailed/descriptive exams. These are not for MCQ's exams.

Thanks.
