California Drops Sexual Harassment Suit in $54 Million Settlement With

Activision Blizzard, the video game maker accused of fostering a culture of sexual harassment and discrimination against female employees, has reached a settlement with the California state agency that filed the allegations more than two years ago. In a surprising turn of events, the California Civil Rights Department has withdrawn its claims as part of the settlement.

Under the terms of the agreement, Activision Blizzard has agreed to allocate up to $47 million to address accusations of pay disparity and discrimination in promotions specifically involving female employees. The total settlement amount is approximately $54 million.

Both the California Civil Rights Department and Activision Blizzard stated in the settlement that no court or independent investigation has substantiated the allegations of systemic or widespread sexual harassment within the company. Furthermore, the investigation did not find any evidence of wrongdoing by Activision's board, executives, or its Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kotick.

This resolution brings an end to the protracted dispute between the State of California and Activision Blizzard, known for popular video game titles such as Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and World of Warcraft. Throughout the process, Activision Blizzard consistently denied the accusations made against its workplace culture.

The settlement marks a significant milestone in addressing the concerns raised by the California state agency, and Activision Blizzard's commitment to rectify pay disparities and promote a more inclusive work environment.
