Four people were killed and at least 15 wounded on Thursday in food looting in several locations in Mérida state, in western Venezuela, according to opposition and local press.

"In Arapuey (north of Merida) are several days of conflict, today with looting of businesses, trucks, and clashes with the military, so far there are four dead, 10 injured and about 100 detainees," confirmed opposition MP Carlos Paparoni to AFP. .

The parliamentarian of Primero Justicia -partido of Henrique Capriles- indicated that among the deceased there is a minor, two men of 23 and 73 years and a woman of 26 years.

Gaby Arellano, also an opposition member of parliament, confirmed that four people died and 15 were wounded in Arapuey.

Arellano said the area is "taken" by police and military. "Traders are looking to defend their properties," he added.

Paparoni posted a video on Twitter that shows a group of men who cry "we are hungry" to stone a cow inside a farm and beat her, presumably, to kill her and steal her meat.

The local press also reported that four people were killed and 15 wounded.

"Events in Arapuey are the result of the terrible economic crisis that has led to the country," said Acción Democrática Twitter, one of the main opposition parties.
