Can You Help? We Want Our Posts to be Ethical!

enter image description here

I have a fairly large circle of friends and contacts who are contributing to the Steemit project in various ways. A question has arisen when it comes to posting etiquette and since a search of the entries has come up blank I would like to ask it here.

What are your thoughts regarding posting under multiple headings? As an example I have seen several entries listed under introduce yourself and at the same time under travel both of which have garnered a successful rate of interest.

Your comments may be useful to many so thank you in advance for your input!

I think that double posting the same content is disingenuous. Yes, you have higher visibility for a post. However, you can always try to link to your post in other ways and drive traffic to an article that way. Say for instance there is a similar post that someone else has put up and you have a tangibly related post already. Link to it in the comments! I find this to be much more reasonable than seeing duplicate content, or nearly duplicate content, in various sections.

I very much appreciate your input. I did see the same post under "Introduceyourself" and "travel" that was rewarded equally well under both listings but I did have similar thoughts to yours.

If you do think that your post would fit under two tags, you can just simply add two tags to the top of it, with the first tag acting as primary. I would really be upset about posting two separate posts with the same content, though.

Yes we had someone posting separate post in 10 different categories and instead of one post showing up on the main page, all 10 were showing up. That is very spammy. Adding separate tags for appropriate topics is the way to go. Some people only browse certain topics and as the platform grows that will be the case for even more users. If your article can't be fully described by one tag or a topic has more than one way to describe it, make it easy for others to find by adding additional tags. I don't feel there is anything disingenuous about making content easier to locate by using multiple tags. Someone may use the term "music" to tag their post while readers may be searching for "jazz", as an example. Using both in your post will allow most to find the article quickly.

If someone posts the same content more than once rather than using multiple tags I think all their posts should be downvoted.

Yep and that's exactly what I did and asked them to stop and explained why what they were doing was a bad idea. They agreed and since then have begun to use multiple tags afaik.

Good point and it will certainly keep posters accountable. Glad I didn't double post!

Good information in your reply. I'll be sure to implement it.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. The consensus and my own common sense make the answer clear.
