Why China's Electronic Totalitarian State is Relevant to Everybody

A Great Video

Dagogo Altraide created this brilliant video on China's totalitarian electronic systems and posted it on his ColdFusion YouTube Channel. No, we have no affiliation with him whatsoever, but you should really check out his channel for great videos about technology.

What We Should Learn

While this video is about China's electronic surveillance and emerging social and economic controls on its citizens, we should look at this as a case study and take things to their natural conclusions. When State and major corporations are allowed to track all of your information and behaviors, they have the building blocks for a totalitarian state.

The video features WeChat, which is all about surveillance and government control. It's do-everything approach is similar to Google's and the position that many other Big Data players want to be in. Again, having access to all of this information can do a lot more than simply targeting you with ads that follow you everywhere. Tracked behaviors are already being used to de-platform users on major social media sites, demonetizing them on others, and removing their access to online payment processing services. So, corporate entities are using coercion to enforce desired behaviors, much like the Chinese government does. Does it matter if this is done by a government entity or corporate one?

In the USA, the government likely requires backdoors to all of the information collected by Big Data, as well as capabilities to use your smartphone against your will. It's not a stretch to think that the US government has access to much of its citizens' information in the way that the Chinese government does. While the Chinese government will show a citizen their social credit score, a US citizen will never get any feedback on why they wound up on a no-fly list, were audited by the IRS, or had huge delays in getting their passport issued.

Some may argue that these ratings are good, as they encourage honest, social, and charitable behaviors. Such a system may attempt to make people more virtuous, but coercion cannot create virtue. Forcing somebody to be charitable creates the opposite of charity; it's robbery.

Other Points of Interest

I thought it was interesting that six US government entities said not to use Huawei or ZTE products because they might spy on you. Especially when these same agencies are guilty of spying on US citizens.

I also thought it was interesting that China blocks access to US-based spy platforms including Google and Facebook.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that the tools are already in place to make the USA and much of the world totalitarian. If we don't develop tools to regain our privacy, we are giving our liberty away.

What do you think of this video? Am I a crazy conspiracy theorist for taking the next logical step? Can you recommend tools and approaches to regain privacy? Comment below! Also, sign up to be on our email list, so that you don't miss our future posts.
