RX480 mining ETH, some tweaks for cooler running

in #etherium6 years ago (edited)

So the ambient temps are up and this was keeping my RX480 up at 89C running ethminer. So bouncing off the thermal endstops which is something I was not too happy with.

I have the reference RX480 with blower cooler (As in the picture) so they do run hot but this is still far from ideal.

Going into wattman I mad a few tweaks and the temps down to constant 80C, far better. The changes where:

  • Fan on manual with 1500-2800 as the range
  • Temps with max of 85C, target left at 80C
  • Power limit at -2%

The core clock is now sat at a solid 1266 so less power draw and cooler for the same results of about 24MH/s on ETH :)

I tried above 2800rpm for the fan but you soon move into leaf blower territory so I feel this is the best compromise so far.

BTW: If you missed my last post on this, Enable Compute in workload or you will only get about 16MH/s
