Ethereum's Metropolis upgrade is scheduled for September
When the Ethereum’s 2017 Roadmap was announced, it was scheduled that the release of the major Metropolis upgrade should come in the next 3 to 6 months.
September will be the 6th month and therefore we anticipate that it should be coming very soon.
This new fork will have a lot of upgrades:
- Increasing anonymity with « Zk-SNARKS » also called Zero Knowledge proofs. This will allow users to do higher levels anonymous transactions than previously
- Smart contracts programming should be easier with the new upgrade helping out current programmers. Concerning Bill settlement, Gas should also be adjusted
- “Masking” will allow users to determine the address for which they own a private key. This is supposed to increase security on the network and prevent quantum computer to be able to hack the network
- “Difficulty-Bomb” which has been developed to make mining exponentially more difficult. This has been developed to be an intermediate step between PoW and PoS.
Trading impact?
It is very unclear what will be the effect on Ethereum’s price.
On one hand, the mining activity might slow which would put the price under pressure and on the other hand, this upgrade should improve significantly the network and could make the price rise.
Ethereum has been broadly stable and not the subject of a lot of news lately, this could change with some positive catalysts coming up.
