Hackers have hacked the profile of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in X and posted scam links on his profile. This was reported by his father, Dmitry Buterin.

The post has now been deleted. It's likely that the co-founder of Ethereum regained access to the profile. As of the time of writing, he has not commented on the incident.

The scam post was offering "commemorative NFTs in honor of Proto-Danksharding's arrival on Ethereum." This option increases the blockchain's throughput and reduces fees for L2 solutions based on Rollups technology.

According to blockchain analytics by ZachXBT, the damage amount exceeded $691,000.

Among the stolen NFTs are CryptoPunk #3983, valued at 153.62 ETH (approximately $250,000 at the time of writing), and CryptoPunk #1751 for 58.18 ETH (~$95,000).

A user going by the pseudonym BokkyPooBah revealed that he lost two irreplaceable CryptoPunks tokens. In July, hackers breached the X-account of Uniswap decentralized exchange creator Hayden Adams.

Previously, wrongdoers targeted the profile of Circle's Chief Strategy Officer Dante Disparte for promoting a fake airdrop. It's worth noting that in December 2022, unknown individuals hacked the X-account of Shark Tank TV show star Kevin O'Leary for a Bitcoin giveaway scam. In early 2023, malefactors gained control of the social media profile of online broker Robinhood to promote the fraudulent RBH token on BNB Chain.
