Yep, it's really going to happen! It's only a matter of time for research, development and testing. But the plan is to implement it along with other improvements on shards (rather than the main chain) after sharding with stateless clients, then as the sharding ecosystem gets more stable, coupling it more closely to the main chain, in stages.
