Guide: How to get started with Etheremons.

in #ethereum7 years ago

Etheremons are essentially Pokemon, on the Ethereum blockchain. This is just like crypto-kitties, and still has a pretty complicated barrier to entry. I'm putting together this post to serve as a guide for newcomers to the platform, with instructions on how to get started.

There's a few things that you'll need to follow this guide:

Obtaining Chrome and Meta Mask are pretty easy, just download them. If you don't have any Ethereum, or any crypto-currency to trade for Ethereum, then you'll need to buy some.

If you're in Australia, you can use CoinSpot, BTC Markets, or Coinbase.

There's many other ways to obtain Ethereum, and I won't go into any of them here, except to say, that if you STEEM or SBD that you want to convert into Ethereum, this is a deed best done on Bittrex.

So now, you have Ethereum. You've set up Metamask in Chrome. You've written down and secured your seedphrase or private key, and ensured that no one else has this information. Your next step is to copy your Metamask wallet's address to your clipboard.

From your exchange interface, you are now going to either SEND or WITHDRAW Ethereum to your Metamask account. To get started with Etheremons, you're going to need at least 0.9 (this number is subject to change, but at the time of this article, the cheapest Etheremon is 0.422) Ether to play with. Don't let the high cost of entry dissuade you; when crypto kitties launched, the first Crypto Kitty cost dozens and dozens of Ether. Etheremons are cheap, comparatively speaking!

Once you've confirmed the withdraw, you will need to wait for your transaction to be mined on the Ethereum blockchain. Once this is complete, you're ready to try and catch your first Etheremon. Don't worry, unlikely Pokemon, the odds of your Etheremon escaping from your net is very low. If your transaction doesn't have enough gas to power the smart contract, however; your transaction will be returned, and the Gas Spent will be burned.

Go to the Etheremon website. From there, unlock your metamask wallet via your passphrase / word, and click on the Etheremon you want to capture. You'll be meet with the following:

Just like a vote slider, you can select your "Catching Power" in order to catch the Etherermon. Once the transaction confirms on the Ethereum network; you'll then have the Etheremon in your collection.

That's it! Now, everytime someone captures and Etheremon of that type, you'll earn Ethereum, which you can then cash out by sending a transaction from your metamask wallet to the Smart Contract.

Currently, you can only capture Etheremons, but in upcoming updates we will be able to battle other monsters, evolve creatures, and do a whole lot more. This is Pokemon, on the blockchain, and it is going to be a lot of fun.
