Dr. Li Wenliang Memorialized on Ethereum

Dr. Li was one of the doctors responsible for warning people of the Corona Virus outbreak and also worked at a hospital in Wuhan, the epicenter of the disease. However, after releasing information regarding the disease to fellow professionals in the medical community, he was arrested and reprimanded by local authorities for disseminating “false information.”

Following the outbreak, Dr. Li succumbed to the disease himself after failed treatments and news of his death was later reported last Thursday night. As a response to his death, and a way to pay tribute to the doctor, someone created a smart contract on Ethereum with the source code in the shape of a memorial. The source code contained the biography of the late doctor, along with his contribution to spreading awareness about the disease.

The reason for creating such a memorial on the blockchain is a response to the continuous censoring of news regarding the late doctor, since anything created on the blockchain cannot be altered or removed.
