Ethereum Launches Casper Proof Of Stake Testnet On The First Day Of 2018
Although in my part of the world there are still 2 and half hours until New Year kicks in, in other parts it's already 2018. For instance, in this article from unitimes.media which is dated 01.01.2018. More importantly, this article announces the launch of the Casper Proof of Stake testnet for Ethereum.
The testnet is fully functional, but so far it has only one client, pyehtereum, and some of the parameters are different from the production network. The article linked above has extensive documentation about how to launch a node, how to join the testnet and how to "mine / stake".
Ethereum announced its intention to switch from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake a while ago and lately, they ramped up efforts to achieve this.
The launch of the Casper testnet in the first day of 2018 is sending a very strong signal.

I'm against Ripple like many others because it's owned by banks. It's good to know that some legitimate coins like Eth are working on claiming their position back in the race.
Well to be fair a BTC LN has roumors that it is a tech sold for banks and it will work mainly for the banks rather than users

That's the plan, anyway. BTW, Casper was planned way before Cryptokities.
Yeah but cryptokitties was increadibly important thing. Not only we discovered that smart contracts are in fact limitless but also we could see how it impacts on network

Seems like Ethereum would have to gear up efforts to stay afloat. So, many new currencies which are intending to overtake Ethereum, such as NEO, EOS, ADA, QTUM, with ADA being already at 5th in terms of market cap.
I still got 9 or so more hours until the New Year rings in personally :). I think the general crowd is steering toward coins like Ripple but ETH still deserves its place and value that it is at. I wasn't really aware that they were switching to proof of stake right on the first day of 2018 so thanks for the heads up on that my friend!
