Do NOT sell your Steem in panic
As Steem continues to grow in volume and marketcap, it attracts traders who "pump" it with their own money and good news/media and then "dump" it as the price goes up.
This leads to instability and volatility in the price that makes most people buy and sell at the wrong times. I urge you to consider yourself a "hodler" or long-term holder, if you are not an experienced trader.
Do not sell, and resist such urges to watch the market's price. In the long term, you will win if you can resist temptation and emotion :) -Crypt0
Could you possibly suggest a few websites or trading portals where I can actually purchase steem? Or do people just earn it through shiposting? lol sorry for my language.
You can actually purchase it right on here, where it says "wallet" on your profile (top right). An exchange it built into the platform, through blocktrades.su
If you'd prefer a different exchange with better rates, consider bittrex.com
You can trade pretty much any digital currencies there, and turn them into steem.

bittrex.com is an exchange you can buy Steem on but i agree with OP - this should be a hold for the time being, see how things play out. This is just the start and could be really disruptive.
Hi, where did you find out about the 2 year period? On the wallet I checked "power down" and all it says is this :
Account registered by another account requires 10x account creation fee worth of Steem Power before it can power down
which I'm not sure I understand correctly
