There are a few companies that have no competitors, but SmartContainers is not one of them. SmartContainers hopes to introduce its advanced container technology to the shipping industry. SmartContainers creates precision cold-storage containers that use an in-built IoT system to allow container tracking. Soon SmartContainers will use blockchain to allow storage of all container data. All this technology aside, the company is making containers and that calls for a lot of competition.

Competitors

Manufacturing Giants

There aren't any corporate brands behind container manufacturing. The shipping industry's marketing is done by the cargo companies. Containers are made in every country by hundreds if not thousands of manufacturing plants. These factories manufacture almost inter-changeeable containers as containers generally do not incorporate technology. SmartContainers obviously offers the better product but at what price difference? SmartContainers fleet uses some of the most expensive technologies. It will be cheaper for companies to buy their own containers than to work with SmartContainers.

There is a saving factor. It is common for companies to use a more expensive product or service if it offsets the cost by either cutting costs elsewhere or increasing revenue. SmartContainers can do that by cutting costs on spoiled food and medicines. SmartContainers could cut costs by letting them use IoT to monitor food and keeping it from getting spoiled. This feature could also help them get more clients. Will the cost saving off-set costs enough to convince clients of the premium cost? Time will tell.

Technology Companies

Many technology companies create software for tracking containers. The difference is that the blockchain usage along with it has not been delivered yet. SmartContainers faces partial competition here and it is possible that open-source blockchains like the Hyperledger might eventually give those software developers a way to combine IoT and blockchain for containers. That's not the case for now.

Blockchain Start-Ups

Blockchain start-ups don't make containers but that changes now. No competition here.
