What is DAG and why its so important for Ethereum mining?
DAG is common term used by Ethereum miners and it plays significant role in mining.
In general terms it stands for Dagger Hashimoto
It is a proposed specification for the mining algorithm for Ethereum 1.0.
It achieves two main objectives:
ASIC-resistance: ( So we don't have to buy costly special purpose mining hardware like Bitcoin)
Light client verifiability
Its size is another main factor which is aprox 2.6 Gigabyte right now.
According to recent research it is growing at approximately 0.73x per year.
So approximate values in coming years would be
The 3GB limit will be hit around mid-April 2018
The 4GB limit will be hit around mid-September 2019
Although right now, bios settings for 4 Gb GPU consume less wattage but for long term mining of Ethereum, it would be recommend to go for higher Vram GPU atleast more than 4gb.
