More Than a Lifetime
Corporations are like individuals without a life span. It is possible for them to thrive many centuries after their founder’s demise. Although highly unlikely... they can be thought of as eternal.
Blockchain technologies are the new members of these ‘eternal’ systems. There is one big difference: ownership.
Corporations are owned by the stockholders. Blockchains usually do not have owners.
Blockchains exist according to a set of behavioral rules. These rules can be changed. Usually there is some pre-set method for deciding what changes will be made.
In both corporate and blockchain systems their future depends on choices made in the future. Power is likely to be in the hands of our heirs.
The point is what ‘substance’ is a suitable legacy for future generations. Many powerful families were set up and built on corporate stocks. Kingdoms were formed around lands. Wars have been fought over precious metals, jewels, and oil.
What will be the dominant ‘eternal’ powers in the future? Our children will decide. What will they be willing to die for?
Here is today’s beauty.
Your post talks about the future and has make me think of what I see as the one biggest thing that I think will change in the world. That change is a major reduction in the human population. I do not see the world supporting this many people. I think an 80% to 90% reduction is need. How I do not know but that is my thought on the future.
Reading from you everyday worth every of the minutes I have spent on your page. Your words and images are just too accurate, they meet one need or the other.
Each time you open your mouth to talk, one should expect nothing but words of wisdom.
Thanks doc, how is your mama now?
It would seem that corporations should be eternal doesn't it?
Oddly enough that's not the case. A large organization (like an elephant) moves kinda slow. It doesn't react to changes very well. Due to advances in technology the expected life span of corporations has fallen off a cliff. Today it's forty to fifty years
. And I'm talking fortune five hundred..NOT startups.
This article says twenty years.
Oops... make that eighteen years
Nice words @doctorjohn what really cut my fancy today is the picture of the young Soliders obeying the call to serve their father. That is great bravery!
