Jesus and the eternal life: This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:51

The Gospel of John tells how Jesus, when he was in the region of Galilee, multiplied the loaves and the fish to feed the crowd that followed him, Jesus saw the people who listened to his teachings tired and hungry and Jesus felt compassion for them.
After this miracle Jesus presented himself to the crowd that followed him as the true bread that leads men to eternal life, to search for Jesus is to search for the mystery of eternal life according to the revelation of the gospel: "Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life" John 6:27.
Jesus, as the Gospel of John shows, used the metaphor a lot to instruct the common and simple people in the spiritual knowledge of God. Lord Jesus, without saying it openly, presented himself in the doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven as the personification of the perfections of God, that is, as God made "son of man", a play on words to show his divine nature. What the gospel of John is teaching, is Jesus as the bread of life, or in other words, that "spiritual bread" or wisdom that leads men to the contemplative life.
With these words, the gospel teaches this spiritual revelation: "No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life" John 6:46-48.
In other words, Jesus is that "living bread" that leads men to that life that once obtained cannot be lost, that is why it is eternal, the true spiritual life of man begins with this fact, recognizing Jesus as the "son of the man", as the gospel says:
"Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world" John 6:49-51.
