Museum of Steam Locomotives Reșița

When you start a trip you know the final destination, but never know the unexpected stops that waiting for being explored on your way ...

That's what I did on my way to the National Park Nerei Keys, I stop here, in Resita County of Caras Severin to a outdoor museum open non stop for visitors.This is called the Steam Locomotive Museum and is located in Triaj Park -Resita.

So this is my and my son, with a great and old locomotive.
This place called Banat Montana hides many invaluable treasures from a touristic point of view, so when you have time for a holiday in Romania do not hesitate to spend a few days crossing this area, which will surely amaze you.
Let me give you some examples of the spectacular places on this route. Here we met the great Bei Eye is an oasis of tranquility and color due to the blue water, the Lake Buhui, an amazing waterfall named the Bigar Waterfall, Beushnita Waterfall, the Three Waters located in the heart of Semenic,and a lot of caves and avenues, we can meet here an beautiful isolated village where only 2 people live in,the Bănăţean signing, with a spectacular trail from Oraviţa to Anina. Like many cabins ,and pensions ready to accommodate the desirable tourists offering accommodation and a typical Romanian food.
And now let's get back to our trains ... actually the trains of the museum :)

This museum was founded in the 1972 year,and here we can visit a number of 16 great exhibits, of which 14 are made here in Resita in different periods of time.
This museum is on the List of Historic Monuments from the year 2004,and it was arranged due to the anniversary of a century of manufacture of the first steam locomotives at Resita county of Caraş-Severin and on this pedestal is one of these first steam locomotives.

It's called Resicza and it's one of the first locomotives made here, and was made between 1872 and 1873 years ,after a prototype built in Vienna.

Around 1,491 steam locomotives were built here in the Resita factory ,after that they started the construction of the diesel locomotives and electric ones.Times go fast and so the requirements.

This place allows you a visit that takes you back in those time ,to make a walk well understood an "imaginary" walk with one of these steam locomotives, which are guarded not to be vandalized.


Due to the location of this museum that is in a park, namely the Triaj Park, it does not give you the impression that you are in a museum, but even on the platform of a train station waiting for the train that will take you on your next trip.A trip in the world of steam trains, as well as black and white films from TV.


This factory has operated for 233 years of which 100 years in this place vase created only steam locomotives.


The Reşiţa factories built the first locomotive of the 50.100 locomotive series in Romania, which was built by UDR and registered as King Ferdinand 50.243. After only two years, another one was made here and named King Mihai and the locomotive series was 50,340.



Romania had a number of nearly 2000 steam locomotives that could catch a speed of between 60 and 70 km per hour, drawing dense steam and black smoke.



But we also have locomotives manufactured at the Makaxa factory in Bucharest that can reach 100 km per hour in more than 100 exemplary with excellent performance for the past and present times.

And even if we broke a few rules, curiosity was greater than consciousness, so we "visited" some locomotives,taking a look inside them.

Climbing the old stairs of these locomotives, my boy looked excitedly inside the locomotive.

That's how we ended our visit among the old steam locomotives with a lot of enthusiasm and a lesson of history learned.
On the plates placed in the front of the locomotive, there is the description of each locomotive in 2 language Romanian and English. You can find these tabs attached to my pictures with locomotives.
Now we may not travel as much as we did in the past by the trains,but we can visit ,enjoy and admiring the locomotives that once used steam ,that pass through the mountains, towns and villages with many wagons and hundreds of travelers on board walking in different parts of country.

The nearest airport is in Timisoara the Traian Vuia airport at a distance of 97 km from Resita,from here you can take the train or the bus. And with own car follow the route A1-DN6-DN58A .
Next to this museum there's a row of blocks with enough parking spaces.
