Sex Crimes
If love makes the world go round, sex, it seems, is what makes it come undone ... How much is too little, how much is too much, what is permitted, what is forbidden. These are questions at the forefront of the #metoo movement in the West, which has seen many celebrated and beloved figures toppled in various industries (news, entertainment, etc...) for abuses of power and sex crimes.
The latest cultural icon to bite the dust, is amiable astrophysicist, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who is currently being investigated for sexual misconduct allegations (including rape). Et tu, Brute?
Meantime, in my part of the world (aka Middle Earth ;) an Egyptian actress might face a 5 year in prison, for wearing this revealing dress at the Cairo International Film Festival. No, her crime is not bad taste, but "inciting public debauchery".
Long, windy sigh
It seems that neither the 'permissive' West, nor the 'oppressive' Middle East is getting it right. At times like these, my mind turns to an Ancient Greek tragedian, Sophocles, who said:
The male libido is like being chained to a lunatic.
plus ça change ...
There's got to be a middle ground. I think you chose good examples of extremes on both sides.
