WHY DO CHILDREN REBEL?

We wonder why some children rebel. "But he comes from a very devout christian family,his father is a pastor and so on,the question then becomes then why is the child wayward? The reasons are not far-fetched.
Some of the reasons are as follows:

DELAY IN COMMENCEMENT OF CHILD TRAINING; both the scriptures and psychologist agree that to get the best results,a child training (physical,mental and spiritual) must begin from the day he is born,sadly many parents don't start early enough to teach their children the principles of right and wrong,as well as obedience to leadership at home,school,church and nation.There is always a belief that the child is still young and knows nothing but what parents fail to understand is that the child is born with natural depravities which don't wait till they are older to start manifesting in them.

PARENTS NOT LIVING AN EXEMPLARY LIFESTYLE;this can trigger rebellion in children,living a life contrary to what you teach as a christian parent gives your children the false impression that they can tune in and out of righteous lifestyle at will,when your lifestyle negates what you teach them,you end up throwing them into confusion because they won't know which to follow,if to do as you do or practice what you preach.

PARENTING WITH HURT AND HARSHNESS;when you make your children object of abuse or ridicule because of the hurt caused by your parents,spouse or the circumstance in which they were born or other reasons that you blame them can cause the children to rebel.

BRAINWASHING CHILDREN INSTEAD OF PRAYERFULLY TEACHING THEM GOD'S WORD;Many christian parents,rather than teach their children real bible principles,they fill their vulnerable minds with unexplained traditions and regulations.These children then grow in such traditions without really understand the reason for the things they do,later in future they discover they cannot defend their Faith in God and they have no basis for the things they do or do not do.This will eventually lead to frustration and rebellion becomes inevitable.

FAVOURITISM IN THE FAMILY;when one child is being given more attention than the others in the family or when children are made to feel inferior or worthless due to constant nagging and condemnation,it gives a fatal blow to the children self-esteem and this could result to rebellion in the future.

PARENTS HAVING UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS;when parents set unreasonable high standards for them regardless of their age ,this is common with children of parents that are prominent in the society or church. The reason why some church leaders children rebel is because the expect so much from them without considering their feelings and challenges.

Sometimes children choose to rebel for reasons that have nothing to do with their parents,for instance,a child can experience the death of a loved one or become deformed at a early stage in life and become bitter against God or someone they feel is responsible for their hurt,this will result to rebellion. Some children find it difficult to translate their parents faith to their own personal faith. They are Christians because their parents are ,they have no personal conviction for being who they are,the problem of bad association and negative influence.Children who choose the people of the world as their role model usually rebel against God.

To be able to fight rebellion in your children you must have understanding that rebellious children operate at high level of delusion,we can't just disown the child because they are rebellious,instead look for means of saving the child.
You must admit that rebellion in your child has a double-edged effect,double-edged because you are affected as the parent and the child is affected also.you know when your child is sick you feel so uncomfortable.Rebellion has devastating effect on the child,it affects the relationship with you and everyone around him,it affects his health and ultimately his destiny may be truncated if care is not taken.the psalmist said in

11 Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners,
Whose mouth speaks lying words,
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—

Below are ways to curb rebellious children.

• First as a parent you must heed to counsel as one who desires to raise God-fearing children,is to have a solid,blameless relationship with God,he alone is the one that can mould your children.

• Desist from creating arbitrary rules and spiritual weight. Don't let your children live by traditions of men,endeavour to help your children appreciate God's word and see it as basis for their beliefs,thoughts and aspirations.its not enough to bombard them with 'dos and don'ts'make them see reasons why they must do certain thing s as children of God.You should see that your child engagement in religious activities is preceded by sound testimonies of conversion.

• You must also endeavour to meet the securities and self-esteem needs of your children,Assure them often of your unconditional love,help to strengthen and sharpen their God given talents and abilities .Guide them gently to self-discovery and solid faith in christ,desist from condemning them.

• The place of prayer can never be emphasized enough in dealing with a rebellious child,the word of god enjoins believers to pray without ceasing (1 thessalonians 5:17). As you take your time to live an exemplary life,teaching your children the whole counsel of God then you must not take prayer for granted,its the only way you can deal with rebellion instigated by the evil one.

Let it be in mind that God frowns at rebellion,to help your child escape from the wrath of God on disobedience and rebellious,therefore take heed to the word of God and let nothing neglect your love for your child as nothing will separate you from the love of God.
