[Set 1] eSteem Gamification Badge RecommendationssteemCreated with Sketch.

in #esteem7 years ago (edited)

A couple of days ago, @good-karma posted about the idea of implementing gamification to eSteem by adding reward badges, and called for badge design ideas. In response to that, I came up with 3  badges, to recognize users for their participation in the eSteem community and promote the usage of the app:

I was thinking that implementing a tiered badge system, where higher-tiered badges are harder to acquire, would help promote the usage of the app similar to StackOverflow's gold, silver, and bronze badges. Here are the descriptions of the badges, in ascending tier classification:

1. Novice

The novice badge would be awarded to users for using eSteem for 7 consecutive days (1 week)

2. Advocate

The advocate badge would be awarded to users for using eSteem for 30 consecutive days (1 month)

3. Connoisseur

The connoisseur badge would be awarded to users for using eSteem for 90 consecutive days (1 quarter)

In general, I suggest that the badges be initially greyed out, until they have been awarded to the user. I also suggest a ring progress bar be positioned around the badges.

For these badges, the progress bars for all participation badges would increment by the same amount at the same time for every consecutive day. If the user skips a single day, all progress bars would reset. If a badge has already been awarded, its corresponding progress bar would be removed. Only the progress bars of the higher tier badges would continue to run and/or reset, if they have not be awarded already.

I am a software developer, not exactly a graphics designer, but I am eager to learn new skills, so I gave this a shot. Comment below if you have feedback. In the end, @good-karma will decide what to implement, so share as much suggestion as you can.

Sort:

Maybe consider a more gradual consideration? Novice = 5 of the last 7 days
Advocate = 25 of the last 30 days
Connisseur = 80 of the last 90 days

Good suggestions. Those are numbers are definitely not set in stone. I just thought of using the standard units of time (week, month, quarter).

Thanks @evolved08gsr:)

5 days is not going to make a big diff.

@dang007 what do you recommend?

I dont have a recommendation, anything is fine.

Ok

That definitely makes sense. I just know how annoying it is to see a longer streak get broken simply because you miss one day over an extended period of time. It may generate more motivation to be active, but it could also generate sheer frustration for not being able to log in for a day or two because something unexpected happened in your life .. or you were on vacation and thoroughly enjoying not using your smart phone :)

Great points! I remember aiming for the Fanatic gold badge on StackOverflow, and it got reset when I travelled to another country and didn't have access to the internet for a day.
