A boy or a girl?

This experiment is famous all over the world as one of the cruelest experiments on humans in the history.

It's really impressive...

The story happened in 1965.

The eight-month-old baby Bruce Reimer, born in Canadian Winnipeg, was circumcised. However, due to the error of the surgeon who performed the operation, the boy’s penis was completely damaged.

A psychologist John Mani from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA) advised parents a “simple” way out of a difficult situation: to change the sex of the child and raise him as a girl!

He explained it as the best way to avoid future problems of a boy because of his sex problems.

Poor parents really saw a way out in such a decision, but they didn't know that this doctor Mani wasn't interested in their problem, he just had been seeking for a way to prove his own theory about the role of upbringing in sex development of a person.

The boy had his testicles removed, and for several years, Mani published reports about the "successful" development of his experimental boy in scientific journals.

He wrote that the boy really became a girl and there were no sign of his natural sex in his behavior. He described how much Brenda differ in "her" behavior from her brother-twin.

It was lie!

Parents saw that this "girl" felt like a boy and behaved like all boys. It was real dissonance of sex and nature!

One more problem was that parents didn't inform their kid about this experiment, the boy didn't know that he had been born a boy! This secret hurted parents very much, and they suffered from endless depressions.

The boy knew the truth only later, but his father became alcochol addicted, and his mother suffered from psychiatric diseases.

When Bruce-Brenda reached adolescence, he was given estrogen to stimulate breast growth, and then Mani began to insist on a new operation because Brenda had to have female genitals.

But it was the final point of the boy's tolerance and patience.
Bruce-Brenda rebelled and rejected from any kinds of operations!

It was too much for his mental health, and the boy tried to committed suicides several times...

After a long period of rehabilitation he tried to return to normal life.

As a man!

He changed his name to David, cut his hair and began to wear men's clothes.

In 1997, he went through a series of reconstructive surgeries to return physical signs of gender.

He even tried to be a husband and a father: he married a woman and adopted her three children.

It was his last hope to find his place in this world.
But he didn't succeed.

In 2004 his family life was over, and this time his suicide try was "successful"...

The man died at the age of 38...
