Nasser Al-Khelaifi: "It's Enough for Referees to Benefit a Team like Real Madrid!"
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeat in the first leg of the last 16 of Real Madrid seems to be difficult to accept by some parties. PSG coach, Unai Emery, is clearly the first to object to the defeat. One thing underlined Emery is the referee who led the game, Gianluca Rocchi. According to him, the Italian referee became one of the causes of his team's defeat.
Les Parisiens was actually ahead of goal from Adrien Rabiot, but Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty goal managed to make Los Blancos equalize. Furthermore, Madrid managed to reverse the situation in the second half through the second goal from Ronaldo and Marcelo.
There are two incidents commented on by the Spanish coach. First, the penalty awarded Rocchi to Madrid. According to him, the referee's decision can be disputed. The second incident was when Rabiot's kick hit Sergio Ramos.
Despite not claiming to see it, there are indications that the ball touches Ramos's arm to make him question the referee's decision. If only the referee blew the whistle at that point, he was sure that the game would be different.
"If the referee gives the first penalty, he should also give a second penalty. It's his job and if it's a penalty, he should blow his whistle, "Emery said from Goal.
Emery is not alone. PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also questioned the referee's decision on the game. He expressed his disappointment when interviewed. According to him, the referee should not give two yellow cards to two PSG players, especially those received by Rabiot. In reruns, Rabiot does look touched Luka Modric altogether. Al-Khelaifi also objected to an offside call that he did not think so.
"Last year, this happened to us in the face of Barcelona. Then now, we get the same treatment against Madrid, "Al-Khelaifi said in an interview.
"It's enough for the referee to behave thus. Such small details help a big team like Madrid. They feel the referee is on his side. It's not good for European competition and UEFA should fix it soon, "said the wealthy businessman from Qatar.
However, he did not blame the referee for his team's defeat. But of course, PSG president's disappointment was apparent after the game ended.
His team must be prepared to face the second leg to be held in Paris. Hopefully in the game, the referee performs his duties as everyone expects.
