I grew up in a society and culture where risk is avoided at all cost. This cultural upbringing and programming automatically became a part in me, no matter how much I push to make a difference, my mindset brings me back to my root. And this has become a problem to large volume of the African people, not because risk is dangerous but because we were not trained to take it.

As we grew up, we realized everything we ever wanted was on the other side of fear, but then those childhood voicing comes in and limit us by openly reminding us of our weaknesses, the pain in mocking and time wastage if the goal is not accomplished.

Dale Carnegie said

If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy

I come to realize fear is a living entity that grows with how much you feed it with thoughts. The more you think about your fears, the wider the horizon it occupies in a man's life. The only people that have limit the access of fear in their lives are people who "get busy" . They learned to master their fears, they understand when fear speaks and the kind of words it communicate.

An American sociologist Barry Glassner
demonstrates that

it is our perception
of danger that has increased, not the
actual level of risk.

Culture of fear

Most times the fears we experienced are not breeded from ourselves but by information spread around which generate a climate of fear in an individuals mind. This has an ability to last for a very long time even unto a generation to come.

This culture of fear give one lesser room to dream big or push on to a bigger picture.
Culture of fear is believed to be practice by politicians who create news around to stare up fears so they could achieve certain goals. To this regard Barry Glassner clearly stated out that , the level of risk does not increase, it's our perspective toward risk that makes it looks like it. False evidence usually appear real but they are not real.

Your fears of avoiding things to happen can also hinder you from achieving your dreams . The thin line between success and failure is risk. most times it becomes a larger risk not to take a risk Because our larger fears carries our greater growth.

How to overcome fear from cultural and childhood programming

It becomes so hard to deal with fear especially if you were not exposed to it from childhood. "It hard" doesn't mean "it's impossible" , it portray just the reality that in involves gradual process.

The first way to deal with fear is by identifying it, only until you know your fears, you can't fight it.

The second is to understand that fear is a choice, no one puts it in you, you only choose either to run from it or to face it.

Thirdly, courage doesn't mean freedom from fear, it means, taking risk even when the fear comes. It becomes a gradual habit in use if we train ourselves into experiencing the fear and taking action anyway.

Lastly but not the least, "get busy" it is from our getting busy that terminate the chances of having thought over our risk. The more busy we become, the more risk we are exposed to and the more we become courageous over fears.
