Some unknown information about Antarctica
It is the world's largest wind movement. But there are also some unknown information that will force the new ideas about this continent.
● 14.99 percent area of Antarctica covered in ice. The lands of the continent have been buried under multiple glaciers. This layer of snow is called ice sheets.
● The thick ice sheet of Antarctica is about 1.6 kilometer thick. About 70 percent of the world's sweet water is located in Antarctica.
● Among the Antarctica, the Transantantic mountain range that divides the continent into the east and the west. The total width of this mountain range from Cape Aidier to Kotland is 3500 kilometers.
● Until the discovery in 1820, Antarctica was considered an island.
● Norwegian resident, Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole. On 14 December 1911, he reached the continent behind British explorer Robert Scott.
● In 1959, 12 countries signed the Antarctica Agreement. According to the treaty, this continent is dedicated to peaceful research work. Currently, 48 countries are part of this agreement.
