The Year of the Pig will be upon us soon. I had thought I would do a post on the Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, words don’t flow. So, here’s a brief on the Chinese New Year.

It is actually, the Lunar New Year that we are celebrating. This year, it falls on the fifth of February. There will be a lot of eating, drinking, feasting and celebrating, not unlike the Christmas and New Year of the West. There’s the Reunion Dinner which is a very important event. All families will try to gather together for this one meal of the year together, and those working overseas will try to make it back home for the Dinner.

The celebration lasts, supposedly, for fifteen days. But it is the first three days that are the main days. People visit their relatives and friends. There is a lot of catching up, cheer and merry making. The rest of the days, I guess are for people who cannot make it during the first three days.

So, basically, that is Chinese New Year!

All Asian countries celebrate their New Year according to their customs and cultures. The idea is the same, only the food and cultures are different.

To all celebrating the Lunar New Year, have a great year in the year of the Pig!

Cheers!
