Loquat Tree

in #esteem5 years ago

According to Wikipedia, the Loquat tree, also known as Eriobotrya japonica, is an evergreen shrub native to China, but can also be found in Korea, Japan, and in the hilly regions of India, Pakistan, and Southern European countries. They flower in Autumn. The fruit begins to ripen during Spring to Summer. The flavour is a mixture of peach, citrus and mild mango. The fruit has a high sugar, acid and pectin content. It is eaten as a fresh fruit, or it can be made into fruit juice, wine or liqueur.

It happens that there is one very near to the apartment I am staying, in Benalmadena. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived in Benalmadena, the season is already over. There were still some dried out fruits on the tree, but I didn’t get a chance to taste them.

Here are a couple of pictures taken by my friend when the tree was laden with fruits.

And these are the photos I took when I arrived. As you can see, the season is over. Even the tree itself is looking rather tired.
