A Trip to Malacca – My Journal, Part 4

in #esteem5 years ago

It was the last day of our three days, two nights trip to Malacca. We were supposed to check out of the villa by twelve pm. But our coach to fetch us back to Singapore was arriving at half past four. That left us four and a half hours to kill. We asked for an extension of the checkout time. They gave us another two hours. But that still meant hanging out at the villa, and then at the reception counter. There was nothing of interest to do in the resort.

In the end, we decided that we will have breakfast, then go back and relax for a while, then checkout at twelve pm, and go to the Freeport Outlet. At least, over there, we can have a last look in the shops and have a spot of lunch. Or we can just find a cafe and have a cup of coffee and a chat, while waiting. There are more options, and way better than waiting at the reception. We also found out that it was possible to go straight from the Freeport Outlet to the waiting station for our coach without having to go back to the resort again. So, that was a bonus. And, that was what we did on our last day of the tour - breakfast, checkout, and then to the mall.

This is the club house where we had breakfast in the mornings. It was quite a distance from our villa. We had to call the receptionist, to arranged a time for the transport to pick us up. The breakfast – a buffet of local cuisine, is included in the tour package. It was all right, nothing out the ordinary or extraordinary.

Initially, the cynical me was afraid that we were going to wait forever for transport – if they come at all. But surprising, every time we arranged for transport, they had been very punctual. It just goes to show, the lower your expectations, or when you have no expectations, you are pleasantly surprised - again and again.

Here are some images of the surrounding of the club house.

The Freeport Outlet, or Factory Outlet to some, is a mall where you find designer names. I am not sure how many of the shops are authentic, and how many of them are imitations. Anyway, there were some very decent bargains. And yes, we all bought something – some more than others.

Some images of the of the mall.

I quite like the rainbow-coloured umbrellas overhead. They sure add a splash of colours to the mall.

And what was this windmill doing in the mall, you may wonder. The answer will be revealed later.

A Trip to Malacca – My Journal, Part 3

Sort:

A few extra hours to kill in Malacca cannot be a bad thing. I've visited it twice, and each time I've enjoyed my stay immensely.

Whether lingering in the central area, wandering the side streets, getting caught up in the craziness of the Jonker Street market, or strolling leisurely along the riverside promenades, any extra time spent in Malacca is a bonus.

And I hope you made it back to Singapore safely. Cheers!

Hi there @majes.tytyty

It would be all right if we were in Malacca town or center. But we were way out at the A'Famosa resort. There was nothing to do there. 😊

Yes, I got back to Singapore safely, after have braved the nightmare of the immigration.

If you are Singaporean, immigration should not be that much of a nightmare, right? Or do you just mean the massive crowds at immigration?

I lived in Singapore for 5 years, and coming in thru Changi was always a breeze. Only once did I come thru the Woodlands checkpoint ... and that was enough!

My problem was - this was my first time using the Woodlands immigration and I didn't know where is what. But once I joined the right queue, all went smoothly. Still, I am very uncomfortable with the sea of people. Like you, once is enough, and I don't want to have to go through with that again. However, I think that is impossible to avoid.

Me neither. When I went to Malacca, I went out thru Tuas, and came back in thru Woodlands. Both were unpleasant, and even confusing. I'll avoid those crossings is I can.

I second that. haha...
How are you doing? Are you still in Thailand?

Yep, still in Chiang Mai. But the "new" government is making all sorts of new laws regarding foreign residents / retirees, so it's becoming increasingly difficult for us to stay here.

Many of my friends are abandoning this country when their current visas expire. My visa is good until April, but after that, I'll probably move to another country. Maybe Indonesia, maybe Malaysia .... will see.

How's everything with you?

So, you like it here in South-East Asia. I have a couple of friends who love it here too, but were forced to go back to the UK because of Visa/residency problems.
April is another half a year away. Plenty of time to think of what to do next should they not renew your visa, but at the same time, half a year is a blink of the eye away. Best wishes.
I am great. Thanks for asking. Plodding along, one day at a time.

Those umbrellas are pretty cool. They remind me of a display in a Las Vegas hotel. I think it was the Bellagio. !tip

Hello Jon. Nice to hear from you. Thank you for the tip! 😊
