A Blast From the Past

in #esteem5 years ago

I came into pictures of these items from my younger days. It seemed a life time ago. Some youngsters today would not know how to use them.

A bus with an open door. When it was really crowded, people stood on the steps, held on to whatever they could grab hold of, and hang on for dear life. Such was life back then.

Bus tickets
The big numbers indicated the price of the ticket. The bus-conductors would punch a hole on the number at the side to indicate where you got on.

Kerosene lamps
At night kerosene lamps provided the much needed light – a big one in the hall and small ones for the bed rooms.

Baby chairs
Baby chair made of bamboo. Flipped it on its four legs, it’s a chair for an adult.

A later version of a baby chair. If your legs were long enough, you will have some mobility on flat surfaces.

TV
An old TV – I think this was a colour TV.

Outhouse
This was an outhouse. For the younger ones here, it’s a place where you took a dump. Usually located a distance from the house so that there won’t be any smell.

Howdy sir Vincent! Kerosense lamps!! Dang how old are you anyway? We had electricity in the early 1900's. Were you out in the country? And that outhouse! wow, I've never seen such a pitiful looking outhouse! lol.. not that any of them are beautiful. lol. I like that bamboo chair, it looks very cleverly designed and of course the tv consol is great, that was a fine piece of furniture in it's day. Kids today don't know we used to have to get up to change the channel.

We were living in villages back then. Things were a bit different and slow. It was a different life all together.
The bamboo chair is very sturdy. :-)

Howdy sir Vincent! We still have kerosene lanterns in case the electricity goes out, do you guys?
I suppose there's not use asking you what you'll be doing this weekend? lol.

No we don't keep kerosene lamps in case electricity goes out - only a few candles and a couple of torch lights. Our electricity supplier is quite reliable.

No plans this weekend, as with most weekends. Nobody wants my charming company, so it will be a quiet weekend - again!

I guess Mrs J has a list of tasks for you this weekend! lol

Howdy again sir Vincent! you are so lucky that I don't live there because I'd be bugging you to
go have dinner and some drinks every single weekend! lol.

On the electricity thing, I'm sure your supplier is very reliable and dependable but I was thinking
more along the lines of an EMP attack or something happened to take the grid down like an
explosion.

Do you guys have preppers over there like we do here? Seems like half the people on Steemit are
preppers.

Mrs. J has a list of tasks for me all the time, not just for this weekend. lol.

Howdy Jonboy! I used to go out with a group of friends on Friday nights for drinks and karaoke. But the karaoke lounge has since closed and the friends have all dispersed. I guess everyone has their thing to do.

Singaporeans are very apathetic. We will deal with it when it happens. So, no preppers. At least there hasn't been any reports of preppers anyway.
