As always, every afternoon I always go to my peanut garden. But the day is a little different, I found some pretty pretty ant that has a tail like a squeak. His name is the Tomcat ant or also known as the ant kayap, ant seedlings, rove beetle and is an insect of the family that has its main ciiri is a small body elongated measuring between 1 to 35 mm. The upper body of the tomcat is dark yellow, underneath the abdomen (abdomen) and the head is dark.
Worldwide there are 600 species of tomcat (Paederus littoralis). These animals are cosmopolitan (everywhere) and are very fond of humid areas and plants, such as rice, corn, and bushes.
When disturbed or threatened, the ant-like beetle will raise the abdomen to frighten the enemy. Tomcat does not bite or sting but when threatened it will release a poisonous liquid called 'paederin'.
From the ecological aspect, tomcat attack or ant seedling must be caused by the damage of nature that is environment condition (ecosystem) is not balance. Could be because of the damaged habitat so tomcat 'migrate' to human habitat. It could also be due to disruption of the food chain, with fewer tomcat predators such as geckos, birds, and other types of poultry due to frequent hunting, tomcat populations so explode.
