Grasshoppers are herbivorous or plant-eating insects. This insect has a head antenna that is almost always shorter than its body. Long back legs are used to jump while short forelimbs are used for walking. Despite having no ears, locusts can hear. The hearing instrument of the locust is called the tympanum and is located on the abdomen near the wing. Grasshopper breathes with trachea. The rear legs on the grasshopper are used to jump while the small legs are in front for walking.
This type of insect generally has wings, although its wings sometimes can not be used to fly. The female locusts are generally larger than the male grasshoppers.
In Islamic Religion, Grasshopper is one of the two animals that when it first dies is still lawful to eat.
