Walking in search of N95 masks,เดินตามหาซื้อหน้ากากกันเชื้อโคโรนาไวรัส

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. I really did try to get some N95 masks; I had to go back to the big store three times in one week! Unfortunately they were all sold out by the time I got there! One customer bought up all the masks in the store. However, I did enjoy my trip to the big HomePro store in city center. The sky was bright for a change and I got a few cityscape photos taken at the skytrain station and along the skywalk around Ploenchit station.

It was quite alarming to me that despite the government ban on exporting protective masks, most drug stores and big shops still could not get any delivery of masks from factories. One friendly chemist in a drug store told me that they had placed an order for weeks but still no masks were delivered! On the other hand, she told me that she could find these ordinary masks sold online at 100% increase in price!

Previously the government allowed the export of less than 400 boxes of masks by an exporting companies at a time. So, these companies had been exporting 350 boxes at a time as they get much higher prices as exporting items. That’s why no masks were available in drug stores or shops. I was very glad that the government has forbidden the exporting of locally produced masks. But we still haven’t seen any new masks in any shops.

Now I think that these factories have been selling masks to some middlemen so that they could fetch higher prices for their goods. Then these middlemen could transport these masks by couriers to neighbouring countries. There has been such a big demand for protective masks from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and other countries. These producers of masks stand to make millions during these few months. So, ordinary Thai people will have to try to protect themselves as best they could. I think the Thai government is not as proactive as the Singaporean and Taiwanese governments. The conflict of interests always stand in the way of judicious policies.

เราเหนื่อยมากกับการไล่ล่าหาหน้ากากป้องกันไวรัสตลอดหลายวันที่ผ่านมา เราต้องกลับไปที่ร้านเดิมสามเที่ยวเพื่อดูว่ามีสต็อกใหม่เข้ามาหรือยัง ปรากฎว่ามีฝรั่งซื้อยกทั้งลังตัดหน้าเราไปเพียงไม่กี่นาที เราก็กลับไปที่ร้านขายยาประจำของเราด้วย เขาก็เล่าให้ฟังว่า เขาได้สั่งของไปนานแล้ว แต่ทางโรงงานไม่ได้ส่งของมาเลย เราก็ถามว่ารัฐบาลสั่งห้ามส่งออกแล้วนี่ ของจะหายไปไหนหมด เป็นหลายสิบล้านชิ้นที่เขาเร่งผลิตกัน เพื่อนก็บอกว่าเขาไปเจอวางขายอยู่ตามอินเตอร์เน็ตในราคาสูงขึ้นเป็นร้อยเท่า ชิ้นละไม่ถึงสิบบาทที่รัฐบาลกำหนดราคาไว้ เขาขายในราคาห้าสิบบาทเลย

เราคิดว่าโรงงานเหล่านี้คงขายหน้ากาก ให้พ่อค้าคนกลางในราคาที่สูงกว่าที่ได้จากการไปส่งตามร้านขายยา หรือตามห้าง พ่อค้าคนกลางก็นำไปขายต่อต่างประเทศในทางลับ เพื่อทำกำไรสูงๆต่อไป ฉะนั้นหน้ากากที่ผลิตในประเทศจึงไปโผล่ที่ประเทศเพื่อนบ้านจำนวนมาก ตอนนี้มีการสั่งซื้อเข้ามาจากเพื่อนบ้านมาก เพราะเขาไม่มีโรงงานผลิตเหมือนในไทย บางส่วนก็ลงไปขายใต้ดินในราคาแพงมาก โดยการฝากขายตามร้านทั่วไปในราคาสูงมาก คนไทยธรรมดาอย่างพวกเราก็ต้องหันมาทำหน้ากากใช้กันเองกระมัง ทำแบบซักได้และนำไปฆ่าเชื้อโรคได้ เราเห็นเขาสอนวิธีการทำหน้ากากทางยูทูปหลายแบบเลย ส่วนเพื่อนเภสัชกรบอกว่าให้เอาผ้าปิดปากสีขาวอย่างที่หมอใช้ มาเย็บติดกันสองชั้นก็ดีกว่าไม่มีอะไรป้องกันตนเองเลย หวังว่าทุกคนคงหาหน้ากากป้องกันเชื่อไวรัสกันได้แล้ว
