#356/365, Morning market in Nongkhai, ตลาดเข้าที่หนองคาย, the OPED project.

The morning market in Nongkhai or Phochai market is the most interesting morning market where I always enjoy walking around. There are interesting activities and new opportunity to take colourful photos.

Today I find so many young kids at the flower stall, they are choosing red roses and jasmine garlands. The owner looks very happy while wrapping flowers for her young customers. One of them tells me that they are students at a nearby school where there will be a retirement ceremony for their teachers today. They want to buy flowers to give to their class teacher in the afternoon. The whole class is out here buying up all the red roses and jasmine garlands. It is so nice to see young students’ loving expression for their old teachers.

Today there are some interesting new stalls in the market. I am very interested in the steamed corns and the deep fried bananas in coconut batter. These look very fresh and aperitsing and they are quite hard to find in Bangkok.

There is also an old lady selling special rice called ‘Khao Kraya Sart’ which is a mixture of young rice, coconut sugar and peanuts. This kind of sweet is seasonal as the maker will use very young rice seeds, so this sweet rice can be found during the rainy season.

The water level in Mae Nam Khong has receded and the flooding situation has gone. The flood water from China and Laos has brought lots of big fishes fien from upstream. So I can still see big fishes being displayed in the market this week. Some villagers also come to this market to sell their catch this morning. This just shows how plentiful the river is and if there were no dams built in the middle of the river, local fishermen would be much better off and villagers would never go hungry.

There are also lots of fresh water crabs and shells this week.

สุดสัปดาห์นี้เราไปดูแลสวนที่หนองคาย และดูแลแมวที่ต้องพาไปหาหมอ เราก็แวะซื้ออาหารที่ตลาดเช้า หรือตลาดโพธิ์ชัยก่อนเข้าบ้าน ตลาดนี้เป็นที่ที่เราชอบไปเดินเล่นจ่ายตลาดมาก เพราะมีอะไรใหม่ๆให้เรียนรู้ และมีโอกาสให้ถ่ายรูปมากมาย เช้านี้เราเจอเด็กนักเรียนมาแย่งกันซื้อดอกกุหลาบ และพวงมาลัยดอกมะลิกันเต็มหน้าร้าน จากการสอบถามก็รู้ว่า เด็กนักเรียนมาซื้อดอกไม้ไปไหว้ครูที่กำลังจะมีพิธีมุทิตาจิตสำหรับ ครูที่กำลังเกษียณที่โรงเรียน ดูเด็กมีความตั้งใจมากที่อยากได้ดอกไม้สวยๆไปมอบให้คุณครู

วันนี้มีร้านมาขายของกินที่เราสนใจมากๆ นั่นคือข้าวโพดต้ม และกล้วยข้าวเม่าทอดมะพร้าว ดูเขาพึ่งต้มข่าวโพดร้อนๆมาวางขาย ทำให้อยากกินมาก ส่วนกล้วยไข่ทอดข้าวเม่าก็ดูดีมาก เดินมาอีกหน่อยก็เจอข้าวกระยาสาร์ทที่หากินค่อนข้างยาก

ตอนนี้ระดันนํ้าในแม่นํ้าโขงลดลงมาได้ สามเมตรแล้ว ที่สวนกำลังค่อยๆ แห้ง ทำให้เห็นต้นไม้ที่แห้งตายเหลือแต่ลำต้นระเกะระกะ แต่นํ้าที่ทางจีนและลาวปล่อยลงมา ทำให้มีปลาแม่น้ำตัวใหญ่ๆไหลลงมากับน้ำ ที่ตลาดจึงมีปลาสดจากแม่นํ้ามาวางขายกันในช่วงนี้ และยังทำให้ชาวบ้านจับปูนำ้จืด และหอยเชอรี่ตัวใหญ่มาขายด้วย

นี่แสดงว่าแม่นํ้ามีความอุดมสมบูรณ์มาก ถ้าไม่มีการสร้างเขื่อน ขวางกลางลำน้ำ. ชาวประมงและชาวบ้านที่อยู่ตามริมนํ้าก็จะมีชีวิตที่ดีขึ้น และไม่ต้องกลัวความอดยากอยากจนอีกต่อไป เรายังเจอคนแก่เข็นมุ้งหลากสีมาขายให้คนในตลาดด้วย ดูชีวิตของคนเหล่านี้ต้องต่อสู้เพื่อการมีชึวิตทุกวัน ด้วยความลำบากและความไม่แน่นอน
