Traditional way to purify the water naturally.
Today, we have to spend thousands of dollars to purify the water, because of pollution. We have also been forced to buy bottled water. But some years ago, people used to take water to drink from directly rivers, ponds and public wells since it was polluted, but they used some natural techniques to clean the water. There is a tree called 'Strychnos potatorum'(தேற்றாங் கொட்டை), the tree seeds also also known as clearing-nuts.
The seeds of this tree are commonly used in Ayurveda medicine and water purification in India. The nut of seed has the ability to cleanse water. People of India used the clearing-nuts to purify water of river and wells, coal mines will also add a little bit of the seed powder to separate the water and coal particles.
People from Tamilnadu, India were used this nuts to purify water, however they rub the nuts in side a pot and pour water in the pot, and the water will be cleared withing 15 minutes. We should cultivate such plants, take their nuts and purify the water. Let us give some natural pure water to the next generation.

So do we drop it inside drinking water to purify them? I have also heard about Nelli kattai being used for water purification and sweetening.
May be this is the same thing, that is called in different names

Good work. Good information. There lies so much potential in ayurveda. It is not an easy task to purify water for a poor man by wasting several dollars. This technique help them to purify water will a little cost. In a simple way more benefits with leaser amount.
