SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY PHASE 1.

in #esteem6 years ago

Social psychology is an interdisciplinary subject which has drawn heavily on the contributions from Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science and Psychiatry. It is a well known fact that no social science can be isolated from the others as they have one thing or the other to share: Social psychology is more closely related to Psychology. Sociology and Anthropology in that, it synthesizes the findings of the three. Ralph Linton, a leading cultural anthropology expressed in his book. The Cultural background of personality in 1945 that "as individual is to Psychology, society is to Sociology and culture is to Anthropology", it is hardly impossible for any investigator to work on any of the three without reference to the other two. Therefore, a convenient way of carrying out one's investigation in the three areas is to approach it from their meeting point, which is social psychology.

Social psychology is concerned about people's social behaviour, when people come into contact with each other and how they behave in a particular way, there is always a particular way people form attitudes and with the contact with each other they behave in a consistencies are the major concern of social psychologists. With these consistencies psychologist try to explain and probably predict behaviour of people.

Social psychology is one of the social sciences which occupy about a quarter of the college and university curriculum. But student may well ask what more precisely, is the contribution of social psychology?
The social psychologist is trained to observe and analyse interpersonal behaviour and the relationship between such events like tensions between group within our society for example, the problem of ethnic relations (such as religious, racial, national, and linguistic differences) such as who sits next to whom, who may run for political offices or who should be admitted to a club all these are concern of social psychologist.
Nevertheless, the most possible answer to all questions on why studying social psychology is the crucial need for wider application of science to our social problems: both the entrepreneur and legislature and the general public generally have been reluctant to avail themselves of the data the social scientist has to offer, part of reasons of course may be that social science findings have not been well published.
