Jokowi: Wakaf Bank 'Save' the Mothers of Moneylenders

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - President Joko Widodo urged the public to apply for a loan of interest-free funds to the Micro Endowments Bank, rather than through moneylenders who impose exorbitant debt interest.

It was submitted to a number of mothers of Micro Wakaf Bank customers An-Nawawi Tanara, Serang, Banten which was inaugurated by President Jokowi on Wednesday (14/3). He asked citizens to use loan funds effectively and optimally.

"This is the most important thing, I do not want the mothers to be caught in loan sharks, because there (the other borrowers) very high interest can be 30-40 percent per year," said Jokowi at Wakaf Bank, Wednesday (14/3).

He said, customers are only charged three percent administrative fee per year of the amount of money lent. The Customer is also not subject to interest when installments.

Some customers tell Jokowi they pay the installment of Rp26 thousand per week on loan of Rp1 million.

"Weight baseball? Nah and it's no interest, good luck borrowed moneylenders," said this former mayor of Solo.

He explains, Wakaf Bank is an institution formed by the Financial Services Authority whose funds come from donors such as Founder Mayapada, Tahir.

Separately, the founder of boarding school as well as Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council Ma'ruf Amin thanked Jokowi for launching the Wakaf Bank program.

According to him, it was done because hearing the input of scholars who want national economic development starting from the bottom, especially boarding school.

"Lucky to have a President who always visited the pesantren and always responded to various aspirations and demands of the people," said Ma'ruf.

This is the third time the launch of Wakaf Bank which was inaugurated by President Jokowi. Previously, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta inaugurated Wakaf KHAS Kempek Bank in Cirebon and Micro Wakaf Bank Al Fithrah Wava Mandiri in Surabaya.

Until early March 2017, 20 Micro Waits Banks in several regions of Indonesia have distributed Rp2.45 billion to 2,784 customers in 568 business groups. (lav / beer)
