This is the scientific study of living things. A scientist that studies animals is called zoologist while the one that studies plants is a botanist. By studying biology we learn more about ourselves and other creatures that have life within our environment. That specific branch of biology that deals with living organisms and their relationship with the environment is known as ecology.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS
It is easier to recognize life than to define it, hence, a chicken is alive, while a pencil is not; mango tree is a living things, but dinning table is not and lizard is alive while stone is none living things. These are true state!ents of fact based on our observations of the mentioned things.
Living things differ from non-living on the basis of internal body organization. The materials that make up non-living things are usually not organized as in living things. Examining any part of an animal like rat, would show that it contain many organs located at specific regions and that organs like liver, kidney, heart, brain, tongue and eye are made of organized tissues. The tissues on every observation are composed of numerous tiny units calls cells. Finally many of this organs are organized into system like digestive, excretory or respiratory that work harmonious to sustain the life of the entire individual organism.
