Government Asks Grab, Go-Jek, and Uber Stop Recruit Online Drivers

The Coordinating Minister for the Ministry of Marine Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan today signed a moratorium on adding new online drivers to the entire region.

Because the number of riders and competition between online taxis considered unhealthy.

This was conveyed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya after a coordination meeting with Luhut, Kemenhub, Menkominfo, Korlantas, some dishub, and three operators drivers online.Because the drivers have competed, and there is a tendency to get orders difficult.

Regarding the length of the moratorium, Budi said it would be valid until there is a next decision.

Director General of Land Transportation Kemhub Budi Setiyadi added accelerated number of new drivers of unhealthy online taxis.

Based on Kemhub data, up to three weeks ago, the number of online drivers for each applicator reached 166,000 drivers.

But, according to the results rakor Monday (12/3), the applicators claimed the number has risen up to 175,000 drivers per company.

Therefore, there will be restrictions on online driver quotas. Currently, the new quota covers 15 provinces, namely Jabodetabek 36,510, West Java 15,418, Central Java 4.935, East Java 4.445, Aceh 748, West Sumatra 3.500, South Sumatra 1,700, Lampung 8.000, Bali 7,500, North Sulawesi 997, South Sulawesi 7,000, East Kalimantan 1,000, Yogyakarta 400, Riau 400.

Not only signed the moratorium, the coordinator asked the MoCI to complete the online driver monitoring dashboard within a week.
