Four Weeks Progress Report NextColony f2p on STEEM
I've been playing NextColony since just after it started and when it entered the chart on The State of the dApps. NextColony quickly got to Number 3 of the many STEEM dApps we have just a couple of weeks after it opened for play.
I have been doing a STEEM project publishing posts about our dApps and asking people if they use them and what they think of them. When @nextcolony made its big move, I decided to sign up and get in on it early.
In the few months I have been doing my dApp polls, this is the only big move I have seen for any dApp. Games are hot on the blockchains, so I figured I would get in at the start for this one.
The idea of this game is that the players are each on their own planet they have discovered when leaving earth. You get this planet on the day when you you first login. Here is my planet:
My planet was called alpha when I got it on May 3 2019. I need to rename it to something else, but haven't yet.
In order to progress further in the game, you need four resources:
- coal
- ore
- copper
- uranium
These resources increase continually based on what levels you have for them. There are ways to mine and then store these resources for use. You increase your "skills" and "buildings" to get the resources to increase more quickly.
It costs all these same resources to increase your skill levels, do the mining, and increase your storage capacities. So these are the only things I have done so far on my account.
Every day, I go in to the @nextcolony dApp and mine and increase storage as I can with my available resources. After that, I go in to increase my skills so that I can get to higher levels for next time.
At some point in this effort, I will use up my available resources and be able to do nothing more for that day. So then I log out until next time after they have built up again.
Here is the opening screen for my account today. This is what I see each time I login. Along the top row, you can see what I have in available resources:
From there I go to the "buildings" screen and build what I can. Here is the top of that screen today where you see I cannot upgrade my base or shipyard.
The base needs to be upgraded in order to upgrade anything else. The shipyard is for later when one day I will build ships to explore the area around my planet. I upgrade both of these as you see. They started out at Level 1 like everything else.
The first building I could upgrade today was my Ore Mine. I had enough of all the resources needed and so I did that.
Notice I am getting 480 Ore each day now. After the upgrade finishes some hours from now, I will by mining 520 Ore each day instead.
Also notice that I cannot upgrade Copper mining no matter if I have enough resources to do it. I need to go the skills screen and upgrade those first before I can upgrade here.
Here is my Ore Depot for storage. I do not have enough skill to upgrade it. All you see the copper depot which shows that I do not have enough resources to upgrade that one ever if I might have enough skill.
Now I am showing you part of the "skills" screen. My coal mine is still upgrading from the last time I logged in, as are the Coal and Ore Depots. I do not have enough resources to upgrade anything else today.
Here is the top of my skills showing my "meta-Skill level is 133.
A bit down the page you see the skills I need to increase and how much they cost. When some resource is shown in red, I do not have enough of it.
So that's it! Each time I go in, I spend maybe 2 minutes on these tasks I'm sure I could spend money and go faster, but I am not spending money on games these days.
If you are playing @nextcolony, I would love to know what you think. Is there any thing else I should be doing, or anything I should stop? So far, this is not very interesting, but since it takes only a couple of minutes each day, I plan to continue and value your advice.
