Bugenvil sering juga disebut tanaman bunga kertas karena bentuk kelopak bunganya yang tipis dan ber ciri – ciri seperti kertas.kalau dalam bahasa Inggris bunga ini disebut Bougainvillea yang diambil dari nama seorang prajurit AL Perancis.
Perawatannya sangat mudah, tidak membutuhkan waktu yang lama karena spesies tumbuhan ini sangat sesuai ditanam di daerah yang beriklim tropis seperti di negara kita bisa tumbuh hingga 10 meter panjangnya Batang tanaman bunga ini keras, memiliki duri yang tajam dan bergabung.cara menanam hanya memerlukan keratan batang yang disemai di dalam polibet ataupun pot dengan cara mudah.
