I’m creating videos about my struggles with minimalism

and how I’m finding it hard to get rid of some beloved items. One such Item is my Canon 350D - my first Digital SLR, and one of Canon’s first consumer grade DSLRs.

In the video, I mentioned that I really should ‘get rid’ of it, either by selling it or giving it to someone that needs it more than I do. Perhaps even giving it to charity.

There is another option; upgrade. How does one upgrade a camera that old? By upgrading the most important part of it - the lens. In fact I have done so several times in the past.

Canon’s EOS brand uses a lens mount that is backward-compatible with the film cameras from before, so many old lenses available for canon work perfectly on the 350D. I used several lenses with this camera over the years, especially on holidays. One of my favourite upgrades was to a 50mm F/1.8 lens. I’ve also used a 24mm F/2.8 lens for the wider angle perspective - especially for holiday photos.

I have used that very popular online auction site with varying results - including being lenses that turned out to be covered in fungus, or with stuck aperture blades. Some vendors just didn’t know enough about cameras and accessories to list them properly online while some where just outright nefarious.
