How are my friends this day, Hope my friends are always in good health and activity as usual.

Today I would like to share my new experience of Mengenal Tanaman Jernang.

Incidentally today I visited my adoptive grandfather who settled in the interior of North Aceh, Precisely prepared Alue Embang Village Sidomulyo, Kuta Makmur District North Aceh. Travel blistering distance of approximately 45 Kilometer from where I live in Town of Lhokseumawe with the condition of road a little exhausting because not terraced in the streets dipedalaman Aceh, especially North Aceh region. But this exhausting trip was healed after I saw the cultivation of Jernang plant by my grandfather in his village garden.

Jernang plant is one of many types of rattan plants, but more to the utilization of resin-like fruits produced from several species of rattan from the clan of Daemonorops. These red resins have long been traded and used as dyes, incense, and traditional medicinal materials. Primarily generated from Sumatra and Kalimantan, the name in various areas of which are jernang, jerenang, jeranang, jeronang, and others.

In foreign languages, this resin is known as dragon blood or dragon's blood (Ingg.); drakenbloed (Bld.); sangre de drago (Prc.); sanguis draconis, and others [1]. In the meantime, outside Indonesia, dragon's blood is also obtained from plants other than rattan jernang; from Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America (Source: wikipedia)

According to the Center for Research and Development of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Jernang Plant is only found in 3 countries in the world namely Indonesia, Malaysia and India. Indonesia has the greatest potential for jernang in Sumatra (Aceh and Jambi) and Kalimantan (Source: Puslitbang PHKA Dephut RI).

During this time I have not been very familiar about the cultivation of this type of rattan plant, Due to this plant itself is very difficult to find because it grows in the forests of tropical climates. Seekers Jernang initially look for this jernang fruit into the forests dipedalaman Aceh, the difficulty of finding these plants in the number of many jernang resulted in seekers begin to cultivate this type of rattan plant.

Jernang plants began to demand the farmers because the market prospect is very promising, Even the price perbambunya can reach Rp. 550,000 s / d Rp. 650.000, - according to the size of the fruit it produces. In addition, this plant also has a relatively long age and early harvest age is also quite fast, Within 2.5 years jernang start to bear fruit and can be enjoyed by the harvest.

Indonesia is one of the exporters of Jernang for China. However, during this time Indonesia produced most of the results of community search in the forests of Indonesia, especially Aceh province itself, and not the result of cultivation. The process of logging Jernang forest-forest Indonesia without replanting after the fruit is taken cause this plant is increasingly scarce, therefore the cultivated plants began to be cultivated today. One example is what my grandfather did, he has 60 Jernang rods that will be ready for the first harvest from the cultivation of plants Jernang done in the last two years.

This first experience for me to know and see directly this rare plant, So far I only heard about the plants Jernang but do not know him closer because as far as I know this plant is only grown in the jungles of the interior, It turns out that this plant has begun to be cultivated in some areas in Aceh Province , Especially the northern part of Aceh.
