EOS Meetup in Paris, France - Introduction to the differences between EOS & Ethereum

On May, 22nd I went to the first EOS France meetup.

It was a good way to meet people that were excited by the release of the mainnet.

First we listened to a very detailed Powerpoint Presentation on differences between EOS and Ethereum on many topics such as Scaling, Costs, Governance, Consensus, Decentralisation...

Introduction to the Evolution of "Blockchains"

  • Blockchains 1.0: Bitcoin

  • Blockchains 2.0: Ethereum, Pioneer of this evolution.
    The ETH Blockchain had 1.0 characteristics and added a Virtual Machine on top of it

  • Blockchains 3.0: EOS, Cardano...
    Had Blockchains 2.0 characteristics and developped OS, Internet of Blockchain and added more flexibility.

Ethereum Blockchain is made of a Blockchain and a language (Solidity)

EOS is made of:

  • EOSIO: The software
  • EOS, the 1st and main Blockchain
  • A high number of other Blockchains linked to the EOS' one
  • EOS uses C++ in its software and runs on WebAssembly (WASM)

This would make life much more easier for programmers to develop dapp on EOS than on Ethereum as most of them know C++ for example.

I am not an expert and just try to simplify to allow more non-programming people to understand some key differences between projects. Please comment below if I made a mistake.

    Too cool to have been there! Do you live in France or did you travel there just for the conference? What you know of EOS, Bench is going to blow the doors off of EOS (and EOS is incredible on its own :)

      Yes, @vlemon. If you could do a sort of "EOS For Dummies" series of post I will update EACH one. I am indeed interested in this, but am just so busy that I don't have the time to focus on doing the research. Hope you will consider this...

      This is clearly the goal, stay tuned for another part this evening.
      As we are getting closer to the launch I would like to explain simply how it works and what are the key differences with Ethereum.
