Thoughts on account names in EOS blockchain

I'm guessing EOS will have named accounts like Bitshares and Steem. So, of course there is one important question: How the accounts will be created?

@dan has already said that there won't be any sharedrop for any other blockchain. But similar idea to sharedrop would be "accountdrop". For example, accounts from Steem and Bitshares could be copied to EOS and given to the same owners. This way users could have the same identity in the EOS blockchain. In the case of same username in both blockchains, the older one will be chosen.

It's probably unnecessary to copy all usernames but let's say that all accounts with reputation score more than 50 might be a good choice from Steem (maybe from Golos, too?). And from Bitshares all accounts that own more than 50 dollars worth of BTS.

This would be a great way to get some early adopters to join instantly when the blockchain is launched.

And what about the rest of the namespace? It's a well-known problem that if it's too easy and cheap to get an account, they will be hoarded. But if it's too hard or expensive, a lot of users won't even try the platform.

My guess is that an auction might be a good and fair way to let users take names. Recently Ethereum Name Service went live and people are using quite a lot of money to buy names like "exchange" and "payment".

An auction would be also a great way to developers to make money either directly by selling the names, or if that's not suitable for the governance model, indirectly by increasing the demand for EOS core token (if the names are required to be paid with it).
