Reflections upon "The Future of Blockchain" event held in London on 19 September; true thought leaders

in #eos6 years ago (edited)

The SVK Crypto team put on a really awesome event last night at the Wework Space in Moorgate. The event was called the future of Blockchain and had three speakers, all big hitters in the space;

All three were fantastic speakers and thinkers and interacted with the community there. There was a completely full house and many people had to stand at the back of the room.

------------Speaker 1: Shane Kehoe - SVK Crypto------------

I often listen to Shane via the SVK Crypto podcast, but oddly I remember the least of what he talked about. Perhaps because I am used to his voice and he suffered from being the first speaker.

He and his founding team have a background in traditional finance and he gave us a general overview of the market and the similarities in relation to the adoption of the internet.

The part of Shane's presentation that stuck with me was a video excerpt from the BBC archives that showed the convoluted path to connecting a PC to the internet in the 1980's and then successfully send an email. You can watch this here thanks to the ThamesTV youtube channel;

.

What we need to keep in mind is that essentially we are in the same place with blockchain technology right now.

------------Speaker 2: Jamie Burke / Founder & CEO of Outlier Ventures------------

I think that as a blockchain investor it was the thoughts of Jamie from Outlier Ventures that had the most impact.

Jamie's main hypothesis is around convergence and how this will shape the bedrock of the industry. To understand this better you can read about it here.

His take home message was that the projects he fosters take time !

Many projects do not have workable tokens and that there is raft of VC firms churning out projects with little token value and without an ecosystem to support the ideas. He predicts that some projects will be reverse engineered and redeployed back into platforms that will ultimately support their idea.

He also identified token treasury management as a critical part of any long lasting project. He predicts that there are still many projects that will need to start selling their ETH to stay afloat due to treasury mismanagement and that this sell off will continue to send periodic shocks through the whole crypto market.

As a former data analyst and reporting expert, I was pleased to see that he identifies "Network Health and Reporting" as a critical step in monitoring the progress and future of projects. Many projects will soon suffer from the emperor with no clothes syndrome, once people see how little adoption is going on with their networks !

------------Speaker 3: Rob Finch / Founder of ICO Alert / CEO of Cypher Glass / 'Everything EOS' Podcast host------------

Rob Finch's message was clean and simple - he is a block producer for EOS and he used a triangle to look for three aspects that will allow for mass adoption:

scalability
fees
governance

He argues, quite convincingly I might add, that no other platform outside EOS can provide these three elements to drive for mass adoption.

---------------Rob Finch from Cypher Glass -----------------------

He says that once people don't need to understand blockchain, but just use killer decentralised apps (ie social media or care sharing) then and only then will widespread adoption happen.

But right now those apps need a place to experiment, grow and thrive.

He also talked about the large EOS fund to aid non commercial application development, which I think will be a fantastic part of widespread adoption beyond silicon valley and silicon roundabout.

He says there there will be a similar journey as there was with the internet . Your grannie doesn't need to understand the internet , html, or internet protocols to use facebook or email.

------------Conclusions------------

All in all the message was clear, Blockchain technology is thriving, even in a crypto winter, but there is still some debris to clear before the real world work begins !

To stay ahead in this space you need to find out what the best and brightest minds are thinking and how they shaping the industry. It is only by taking part or absorbing the messages from these types of events that you can be become a successful long term investor in this space.

SVK Crypto is deeply involved in EOS and Cypher Glass is also an EOS related entity. So there was a lot of EOS evangelists in the crowd.

As someone who hasnt dived that deep into EOS, this was a very valuable event for me personally and will spurn me into looking into this platform with a renewed interest.

------------Are there any EOS evangelists who could comment more on EOS Governance ?------------
