China’s New Cryptocurrency Ratings See BTC Slip While Embattled EOS Maintains Number One

China has released its latest government-sponsored rankings of major cryptocurrencies, placing Bitcoin (BTC) in 18th while awarding the top spot to domestic blockchain platform EOS (EOS). The rankings were released in a press release on Dec. 21.
China’s Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID) under the Country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology creates the rankings, which first appeared in May this year.
Now listing a total of 34 top cryptocurrencies by market cap on the premise of “basic tech,” “applicability” and “creativity,” the results have frequently courted controversy, especially with regard to Bitcoin’s consistently average ranking.
EOS began ranking top in June. Completing its eighth issue, the CCID maintained EOS’ pole position, with Ethereum (ETH) coming in second. Article Was Issued by CoinTelegraph

I've been following this report for a while. It's actually one of the better rankings out there. They have Komodo ranked very high and NANO is ranked higher that IOTA which many investors would call impossible. STEEM and BTS are ranked very well too. But I don't agree with some of the other rankings like ETC being too high and Cardano which share many similarities with EOS being ranked so low.

Funny thing about China is they can't make up their minds about crypto.
On the one hand, they ban the sh*t out of it, banning exchanges, OTC trading, crypto meetups, etc. Then on the other hand, they rate them and tacitly approve of certain less decentralized coins like EOS, but without fiat gateway and exchanges, it's hard to do much with crypto.
