EOS BPs Lose Over 150 million Votes Due to Vote Decay - Vote Early Vote Often
As part of the general ongoing EOS operations, BPs have to be voted in place to be part of the network’s governance. The voting power decays over time. Users need to refresh their votes or proxy to someone that will. In order to maintain maximum voting influence each voter has to re-assert their vote every week! Voting influence decays with a half-life of 1 year for those who do not keep their votes up to date.
The theory being that we don't want legacy BPs that are not working hard to keep their position in the top 21 spots. Those are the most lucrative and should be earned by continuing to enhance the network with value added services the token holders value.
According to EOS Authority, block producers have lost over 150 million votes or over 4.5 percent of the total votes cast.

This weekly decay can have a large impact on the rankings if voters do not remain active and refresh their votes.
